Interview from GQ Mexico
December 2007

When he is far away from fashion shows and photoshoots he likes to dress with jeans, t-shirt and slippers. He divides his time between his hometown Tossa de Mar in the Brave Coast, in the Gerona province - and New York, where he arrived without speaking English.

The energy, the mixed cultures and a certain freedom look are all the factors that made him hold to be Big Apple, his favorite cosmopolitan destiny, better than Paris and other big cities, although Barcelona stays in his heart, among other reasons, for being next to the mountains and the sea.

It was in this Mediterranean city where he, not happy with a tourism career, started to try is chances on a modeling career, with the support of his mother and sisters. It all started with some local jobs, until he was contacted by a foreign agent that gave him the opportunity on the international scene.

I wanted to give myself a sabbatical year to travel and try new things, and the result is that I am already in this for eight years.

Did anybody tried to make you quit this job?

My father was a bit against the change. To him, quit the studies and search for a job as a model, didn't seem very glorifying, especially in men's case.  Now, he is happier than me.

Do you think your success comes from perseverance or for being in the right place at the right time?

I wasn't that type of the model that everything goes great for him as he arrives. I had a lot of luck, but I also had the serenity and patience that many times gets lost. I waited and the one who follows it, gets it. There are no middle points in this job: sometimes you work a lot and sometimes you don't work at all. Everything goes great with me because I always applied that proverb that we say in Spain.

What distinguishes you as a model?

I have always liked my job, and for that reason I try to enjoy it, to make it mine. It's not that I have an attitude, it depends on the client. My stamp is myself.

How is the competition among male top models?

Minimum. Some of my best friends I met thanks to fashion and friendship continues until today: one is in Miami, the other in France.

Have you ever asked yourself if you could do anything else, at the same time or after modeling?

You catch the train before he leaves and when he is already rolling you can't leave him. You can always jump, but in my case, why should I if the train is going in the direction I want? When he starts moving slower maybe I change my activity. If I wanted to do other thing with my life, something that caused me a bigger passion, I would quit modeling. Now, I'm on this, I dedicate full time to it and it is going great.

How do you follow the parties and social obligations that are part of your work?

It goes by seasons. When I was younger I would go to all fashion parties. Nowadays, I only go to friend's parties or parties I'm specially invited to. If I don't have to go, I prefer to stay at home.

What places do you choose for vacations?

I am a lot of the beaches. I adore Tulum; I already been three times in a huts that I'm fascinate with. For work reasons I always have my cell phone with me but I look less times to it.

Could you say that you find yourself more with Spain when you visit Latin-American countries?

From the start. In Mexico everything reminds you of Spain: from the architecture to the way of speaking, from the idiom to people's contact and warmness, some of the food, the way people dresses. The Spanish and the Mexican look a lot alike.

What you like the most in a woman is her beauty?

Of course I like beautiful women. But if they are intelligent, nice, with good taste and more qualities that I like, the better. Anyone who says the physical is not important is telling a big lie. First it must have some contact.  Although I know a girl who is dating this not very attractive chess player, but still he must have something.

What does it take to make a relationship works despite the distance?

If I knew that I would have a very stable relationship. I would probably be married and with children. Long distance relationships are very difficult to handle with, to consolidate it, especially in the beginning, when there is no base and everything can reel.

What was the best gratitude that this job offered to you?

Traveling, meeting and especially opening my mind in a way that no other job can offer you. Without a doubt, this mind opening can make you see things in different ways, the same that you can't always share with your friends.

If you had to disapprove something in your activity, what would it be?

What I resent the most is being away from my family. I would like to spend more time with them, but I have to choose between one thing and another. Therefore, I try to balance it.
